Teleférico de Gaia cable car, seen from the narrow streets of Vila Nova de Gaia The total journey time is about 5 minutes to cover the 562m of the cable length. There are 12 gondola cabins allowing for 8 passengers circulating between the Upper and Lower stations with an average height of 50m above the streets below. The Teleférico de Gaia opened in April, 2011 after two years in construction and with a budget in excess of 10 million Euros, which seems a lot for such a short ride, indeed the project came in over budget. Teleférico Cable Car, Vila Nova de Gaia, Portugal The Teleférico de Gaia is located south of the River Douro in Porto across the Ponte Luis I Bridge from Ribeira and begins at the Upper Station close to the Serra do Pilar convent church and the Jardim do Morro stop of the Porto metro, running to the Lower Station on Avenida Ramos Pinto on the river front over the rooftops of Gaia. The Teleférico de Gaia cable car in Vila Nova de Gaia is a new attraction and a great way to see the port wine lodges and warehouses ( caves) of Gaia from the air.
